Character:

Character Name: Senel Coolidge
Character Series: Tales of Legendia
Age: 17
Background: The past of Senel Cooldige is never quite clear in the game, but I’ll be taking a few liberties with connecting the dots and figuring things out from there.

Senel was born into a farming family on the edge of the Crusand Empire, destined to become either a farmer or a shepherd like everyone else who lived there. However, fate would step in when Crusand soldier invaded the little village he lived in at the age of four. Senel’s mother hid him away in a cupboard and told him not to leave until all the scary noises had stopped, and when he finally did, everything was destroyed and his whole family was dead before his eyes. He had no brothers or sisters at that time.

Only a few other people survived the onslaught, and Senel traveled with those people far and deep into the country of Crusand to try and find a place to stay. Senel was only four, so an elderly woman took care of him for the entire journey. By the end of it though, the woman fell ill, and it was no question that she’d die from it. Senel had to travel alone the day after she did.

But soon, he and his small group of villagers reached one of the cities, and the adults went their separate ways to try and start a new life, leaving Senel to fend for himself. The boy pretty much became a street rat; He’d steal food and pick up coins that were dropped on the ground and feel lucky if he had a satisfied stomach by the end of the day. Everyone else was too focused on themselves; no one cared for the little orphan boy, especially since there were many war orphans thanks to Crusand’s soldiers and their leader, Vaclav Bolud.

One thing that made Senel so different from everyone else was the fact that he was an eren, thus he was very strong and could bend the very air to give him attacks no one could even hope to do. He found this out when he broke a kid’s arm while wrestling for the last piece of bread. Because of that, everyone became wary of him and stayed away from him, which was just fine by Senel. The boy became very withdrawn and tended to lash out at anyone who came close to him.

This went on for four years until many of Vaclav’s soldiers one day roamed the streets, searching for any strong people to make them join the army and train for a difficult task. They picked up a few people, but they were quite interested in Senel, especially when he used the newly acquired skill, Demon Fist, to ward off a dog that was after his meal. They saw that he was an eren user, particularly one of Iron Eres, and so they lured him into the army with the promise of three full meals a day. Food was more important to him than anything at that time, and so he agreed.

For four years, they trained him in the art of fist fighting, although they tried to get him to wield a sword at first. That just caused him to get frustrated and break a soldier’s leg. Even Vaclav himself, the prince of Crusand, appeared to hone his skills a couple of times, although he was just another face to Vaclav and Senel didn’t care as long as his stomach was full in the end. While he was there, Senel made a few war buddies, none of them particularly special to him. They were simply people to talk to and share stories with, and most of them were several years older than him.

At the age of twelve, Senel was sent out on his first mission. He was to capture the Merines, a savior of sorts to the Ferines race. It should be noted that there are two different races in the world of Melfes: The Ferines and the Orerines. The Ferines were people of the water and live in well hidden villages, and the Orerines dominate the world’s population as people of the land. Tensions are high between the two races, what with Vaclav intending on using them for his own purpose and Ferines hating the entire Orerines race for unknown reasons. Anyway, the Merines was very important to Vaclav’s plans, and he knew that no one would suspect a child like Senel to capture it, so he sent him out.

The boy was eager to show what he could do despite his apathy towards the cause; He did look up to Vaclav and knew that this was for his country, after all. And so, he eagerly accepted the mission and traveled with a group of soldiers to the village where the Merines was sighted. He was given two months to report back with the Merines, and if he didn’t, he failed the mission and they’d consider him killed in action. In an effort to make the Ferines feel pity for Senel, they beat him, took a few of his belongings and ripped his clothes so that it looked like he was mugged by bandits. Although there was a large chance that the Ferines would overlook him for being an Orerines, Senel was lucky.

A Ferines girl who looked about the same age as him came onto the scene. She immediately took him under her wing and brought him into the village. It all seemed to fall into place smoothly for him. The girl, who introduced herself as Stella, brought him to the village elder, Maurits. Meeting them halfway was Shirley, Stella’s ten year old sister. After some pleading and promises, Maurits reluctantly agreed, as long as the two girls kept an eye on him. Stella decided to let Shirley live in her home, where she lived alone with her little sister.

Not long after that, Senel came to realize that it was Shirley who was the Merines. Shirley, the little ten year old girl who followed Stella and Senel everywhere they went. Shirley, the shy, yet sweet little girl who wouldn’t harm a fly. Senel wasn’t sure why Crusand would want to use someone like her, or how they’d even consider her a threat, but he kept his mission in mind. He’d make his country, and the soldiers, proud. He’d be someone that he never had the chance to be in his past.

But as time grew on, Senel started to feel more at peace than he ever did. He felt like he finally had a home, especially since he was growing closer to Stella and Shirley. The two month mark was drawing near, and yet Senel found himself wanting to forget about the mission. The Crusand army wasn’t a place for Shirley at all, and he couldn’t leave Stella. They were the first two real friends he had who genuinely cared for him. They didn’t hate or fear him; they treated him as an equal. He still kept his past and the fact that he was an eren, for he was too afraid of losing them if they found out what he really was. And so, he started to feel a strong bond with them. When the last day to capture the Merines and report to Vaclav came, instead of doing his duty, Senel played with Stella and Shirley and slept through it. He had failed, but he felt that he made the right decision.

It took a few more months for him to realize that he was growing closer than he wanted to with Stella. He was Orerines, she was Ferines, and it’d never work out. He tried to distance himself, but it never worked. Stella loved to be with him as much as he did with her. One of the times that he hung out with her was when Stella and Shirley swam in the lake that surrounded the village. Senel was a very poor swimmer, and the two girls made fun of him for it, saying that he’d never be able to perform the Rite of Feriyen correctly if he swam like that. Once he asked about it, they told him that the Rite of Feriyen was a marriage proposal among the Ferines people. The female would dive into the water and swim as fast as she could while the male dove in after her and chased her. If he caught her, then they would embrace under the water. If the water around them glowed, that meant that the god of the sea, Nerifes, has blessed them for a long and happy life together. The ceremony could also be done vice-versa, with the female chasing after the male.

Senel took this information to heart, and ever since he heard of the story, he began to practice swimming, desperate to better himself and become a good swimmer for the ceremony. He had accepted that he was in love with Stella, and he wanted to marry her sometime in the future. He planned to ask her for the Rite when they both turned fifteen. And so he swam daily, often getting up early in the morning before Stella and Shirley woke to train himself. By the time they were both thirteen, Senel was already getting better at swimming, though he couldn’t compare to a Ferines.

One day, Stella followed Senel when he went out to swim near a large tree that they often hung around by. She took his clothes and threw them up into the branches, then hid until Senel came out of the water. Once he did and realized that his clothes weren’t there, leaving him dripping in his swimming trunks, Stella came out and told him that if he wanted his clothes back, she’d have to give him a kiss, and she offered her cheek to him. Senel was highly embarrassed, but nevertheless, he turned her head and kissed her lips instead. Stella confessed that she had feelings for him, and he stammered that he felt the same way.

After that, the two were very much in love, much to the dismay of Shirley. She had an intense crush on Senel, which he didn’t return. No, Senel was much too fixated on Stella despite her attempts to relieve the tension by including Shirley in activities they did together, though she could only do so much. Still, the three of them became a close knit group, and they stayed that way until a year later, when Senel was fourteen. That was the day that everything fell apart for him.

Shirley was twelve, and she was to go through the Rite of Ascension to fully become the Merines. However, she failed that and instead of blessing her, Nerifes cursed her. She became very sick, to the point of almost dying. To try and cure her, Senel and Stella left the village to find a special stone that was said to cure any illness. It took some time, but once they found it, they returned to the village and placed the stone in a broach, and Shirley began to feel better.

Unfortunately, Vaclav’s soldiers were around the area, and they followed Senel and Stella back to the village once they spotted them. Once they recognized it as the home of the Merines, they launched an attack while Senel and Stella tended to Shirley. It was a massacre; they killed whatever Ferines was in their way in their attempt to capture the Merines. Once they realized what was happening, Stella told Senel to take Shirley and run, to hide in a safe place. Senel was reluctant to leave, but Stella promised that she’d catch up and that she knew he could protect Shirley with his eres, revealing that she knew of his power all along. After another moment of hesitation, Senel ran, taking Shirley with him. He eventually found a cave that was abandoned and secluded by the forest, and once he made sure that Shirley was situated and comfortable there, he rushed back to the village to find Stella.

But he was too late. Stella was dying. She had been struck down in battle by a fatal wound, and since Senel couldn’t use magic, all he could do was hold her. Half-conscious, Stella asked for him to take care of Shirley, and he promised that he would. Then she remarked that it was too bad, because she was looking forward to him asking her for the Rite. Senel begged that he would ask her a thousand times if he would just stay with him, but she grew quiet and still after that. In shock over how his entire world turned upside down and not wanting to watch Stella breathe her last, Senel fled the scene and returned to Shirley. There, he told her that Stella would catch up eventually.

From then on, Senel and Shirley moved from place to place, avoiding Vaclav’s army who was constantly in pursuit. They began to live together as brother and sister and found peace despite the odds. Because of the circumstances, Senel hardly let Shirley outside of wherever they were living, and he’d do all of the work while she stayed at home and did household chores. In the few times that Shirley did venture out into the open, Senel watched her like a thought and nearly broke the wrists of anyone who would even dare to talk to her. He became extremely overprotective, although Shirley didn’t mind too much.

This went on for three years until they found themselves in a seafaring village by the sea. Senel became an Alliance marine, one who travels out to sea and kills the monsters who invade the waters, to support his small family. This continued on for a while until Senel found that Vaclav’s army had invaded the little town. And so, he took Shirley and ran.

This begins the game. Senel spent some time sailing in the sea to get away from Vaclav’s forces despite Shirley’s condition. See, the stone did save her life, but Nerifes’ curse remained: Shirley lost all of her power as a mage and as the Merines, and she would also grow terribly sick when she came into contact with sea water. Anyway, he told Shirley to stay in the hold while he piloted the ship and fought off monsters that tried to apprehend them, including one that felt oddly human. Shirley couldn’t stand to be away for long, and so she came onto the boat to check to see how Senel was doing, much to Senel’s displeasure. Suddenly, they saw a light from the distance, though they couldn’t tell what it was because of the thick fog. Thus, it was quite a surprise when a gigantic ship ripped from the mist and sideswiped the boat, causing them to go overboard and wash up on the shore. Since Shirley had such a large contact with the sea water, she fell unconscious. While Senel tried to wake her, a golden pillar of light shone in the middle of the Legacy, signaling that the Merines had arrived.

That was when a man named Will came upon them. He directed the two towards fresh water, and once Senel dunked Shirley in there, she began to recover, although it freaked Will out to see. Ferines can breathe underwater, so Shirley was in no danger, and fresh water takes the sea water out and heals her. While talking to Will though, they were confronted by a Ferines man who wanted to take Shirley away. Senel fought him to get him away from her, but while they were distracted by this, a bandit came along and took her away. This would be the first of several Shirley kidnappings.

Senel, ever the overprotective brother, decided to go after him right away, although Will knew that he couldn’t just run right over there when he didn’t even know where he was going. So, he took him to the only city on the large ship, Werites Beacon. There, Will went to do sheriffy things while telling Senel to wait for him at the fountain, but Senel was restless. Because of a young, short man who wanted to see his power, Senel stirred up some trouble by the fountain, and Will was forced to bring him down and throw him in jail.

This only served to infuriate Senel more considering he was delayed even further from rescuing his sister, but an old woman named Musette convinced Will to release Senel from his prison and aid him in his quest by mentioning that a woman named Chloe was in the area. And so, they ran off to go to the bandits’ lair, where they met Chloe. After some time, Chloe joined their group, and they went on until they fought Moses for the key to Shirley’s room, where she was locked in. Now, this is where Kukki always gets her first game over because Giet, Moses’ friend/pet, is hax, but once the battle was beaten, the key was retrieved, but it was too late. Just before they opened the door, the group heard a scream come from Shirley, and they arrived in time to see the Ferines man from before take the unconscious girl away. Second Shirley kidnapping so far.

They follow her through the Crystal Forest, where they meet Norma and she joins them, and continue on and on… a lot of this has nothing to do with Senel, so we’ll get to where they finally catch up to the Ferines man and fight him and take Shirley back. Senel motherhens over Shirley, of course, including taking her away from the group when they talk about less than pleasant things. Now, while the rest of the group talked about how dangerous that journey was and how it was beginning to rain and how the area was crawling with soldiers who were after Shirley and everything, Senel decides to be dumb and sneak away with Shirley to find their own way back to Werites Beacon. From there, Senel figured that they’d hide out and figure out a way to get off of the ship since their ship was broken down or something.

The two of them don’t get very far when they’re confronted by Vaclav’s army. Within the group were Vaclav’s three underlings who called themselves the Terrors: Melanie the Crimson, Cashel the Phantom and Stingle the Vicious, and even Vaclav himself showed up. Senel tried his best to protect Shirley, but he ended up being beaten by Melanie (who was a mage, of all things). Then, Cashel threw him off of the cliff they were on, but Senel was saved by a golden sphere that enveloped him and brought him safely to the ground below, where a little girl named Harriet Campbell awaited.

Oh, and this is the third Shirley kidnapping.

So upon demand from the girl, Senel raced back to Werites Beacon to meet up with his old group of pals, only to get denied. The move he pulled was pretty dumb, and they didn’t trust him. So, Will and Chloe went on to learn more about… I forget from some guy called Jay the Unseen. Something about Vaclav’s army, I think. As Senel was heading outside, feeling more alone than ever, he suddenly found Norma. Senel wanted to get Shirley back, and Norma wanted the broach that Shirley had since she was sure it was part of the thing she was searching for, the Everlight, and so they teamed up to go get her.

Blah blah blah, more running around, we finally meet Jay the Unseen, who was the guy who caused the ruckus by the fountain. Once Jay finds out that the group had saved his family (a big group of talking otters called Oresoren), he helps them out and shows them where Vaclav is heading. Not only does it give Will and Chloe information, but it benefits Senel and Norma as well, considering Shirley and another Ferines girl, Fenimore, are with them. Now that I think about it, Will and Chloe had heard that Vaclav had a big weapon and was going to use it to conquer the rest of the world, I think.

Anyway, the group joins up again, though tensions are high. They get to the Waterways, which is where the army is passing through, and organize a plan to launch a surprise attack and get the Ferines girls and run. This is ruined by Moses and his gang of bandits though since they barge in right before the plan was executed. They manage to scramble their way through it, leading Shirley and Fenimore to escape and run into the Waterways to hide and Senel and Chloe to run after them, soon joining up with the rest of the Scooby gang.

They almost caught up when Melanie showed them just why it was called the Waterways and made water gush out of the path the group was on, washing them away from Shirley and Fenimore. It was then that Senel learned that Chloe couldn’t swim, and so he rescued the drowning girl and ended up at the bottom of the dungeon. While Chloe freaked out, Senel didn’t think it was such a big deal that she couldn’t swim, but he still keeps it a secret from everyone else, which surprised her. So they all rejoin and try to get Shirley again, but she got kidnapped for the fourth time and left Fenimore with the Ferines man, who they found out is named Walter. Fenimore told Senel that Shirley trusted him more than anything, because he’s her brother. This strengthened his resolve to get her back.

They later found out from Jay that Shirley had been moved to a place called the Ruins of Frozen Light. After several detours, they finally got inside and went through a maze of sorts to try and get to the deepest part of the place. During this time, Senel started to get just a little closer to the group, learning to work together with them and even trust them a little.

But it’s within the ruins that Senel received the shock of his life. Floating unconscious in a water chamber was the girl he thought had died, the girl he loved, Stella. He tried desperately to get her out of there, but to no avail. Vaclav revealed himself and told him that Stella had been alive the whole time, though she had been in a coma for three years. Senel, still reeling from the shock, attacked Vaclav out of rage for what he did to her, but he was overwhelmed easily even with his friends fighting alongside him. Vaclav kicked him around some more, injuring him greatly, and then brought out Shirley, threatening to end Senel’s life if she didn’t break the seal that unlocked the Nerifes Cannon. Shirley agreed, but since her power had been taken away, she couldn’t break the seal. Instead, a golden light shattered it once Vaclav tried to kill Shirley for being useless. Thinking that Shirley finally did what she was told, Vaclav ordered his minions to kill Senel and his friends. Before they could even take a step, an odd shape that appeared to be a golden bird of sorts knocked the bad guys back and carried Senel away, also leading the rest of the group to safety, although they didn’t have time to grab Shirley.

After the group healed Senel, he was still in shock, staying quiet and lost in thought for a very long time. They had emerged in the Forest of No Return which, fortunately, Moses knew like the back of his hand. Upon reaching the bandit hideout where Moses resituated his crew, they came across a wrecked and destroyed camp. Cashel and Stingle came out of hiding and told them that they killed everyone in Moses’ gang and trashed the camp. With jeers from the two of them, Moses and Chloe nearly lost it while Senel was starting to get there himself and Will and Norma were left to calm them down. Eventually though, Will managed to round everyone up and get them away, and they were aided by a familiar face to Senel – Maurits, the elder of Stella and Shirley’s village earlier. He led the group to his hermitage, which was hidden by a guise of a forest.

The group wanted to stop Vaclav from using the Nerifes Cannon, especially since they heard that it works by using Ferines lives. Will, however, chastised for acting like such children, especially with the confrontation in the destroyed camp. What with Moses too lustful for vengeance, Chloe also sharing that sentiment (Stingle killed her parents when she was 12), Senel being too driven by Stella and Shirley and Norma just not showing any reason for them to trust her, they were acting too much on their own feelings and impulses. So, they were left out of the operation to storm his base.

The four of them took time to contemplate this. That night, Senel and Chloe went training together at the back of the hermitage, and they talked about what it was like fighting with each other and then what Stella was like. At that point, they decided to become bffs. Moses and Norma came out of the bushes then, and they all trained together and shared similar experiences even though the game didn’t show it.

That morning, they went to Will and told him that they were ready to be a part of the operation, but they still weren’t allowed. Desperate to prove themselves, they decided to help Maurits get something he needed to help them win, the Whisper Crystal. Will joined them in this.

So, they trekked to the Man-Eating Ruins, found the Whisper Crystal and an odd woman named Grune, and took both of them back with them. With the Whisper Crystal in Maurits’ possession (though he gives it to Walter), he believed that they proved themselves, and so they were allowed into the operation, much to their relief. They still had their reasons for wanting to defeat Vaclav and his Terrors, yes, but they learned not to be solely driven by that and to truly work together as a team. Senel was opening up much more, letting these people into his life, which is something that is rare for him.

The group gathered their forces together and ran off to storm the base! After sneaking past the frontlines, Jay finally decided to join them when he realized the Oresoren were on the battlefield, and they wanted to fight for their land. He would be a symbol for their cause. They infiltrated the base and fought their way through, confronting and defeating Melanie, Cashel and Stingle (the latter, however, ran away and escaped after he was defeated while the former two were killed). They then reached Vaclav, but it was too late. He fired the Nerifes Cannon, destroying a large mountain in Gadoria (Chloe’s homeland). Stella and Shirley were still alive, however, and Vaclav was going to use them for a second shot when the group fought him. They defeated him, but he lived long enough to activate it one last time.

Shirley tried to stop it, but since her power was still locked away, she couldn’t do anything. The cannon fired, and Stella’s teriques, a golden phoenix, flew out to block the way. But the blast destroyed it, which injured her greatly. Senel could do nothing but scream her name as she fell.

While he held her, Walter explained that she had been connected to the Legacy all of this time, that she wasn’t in a mere coma. She was the one who saved Senel when he fell off the cliff, to lead him and the group out of harm’s way in the Ruins of Frozen Light, and it was her during the other instances that involved a golden light. She was even the one who brought Senel and Shirley onto the Legacy.

The healers did everything they could, but Stella was simply too weak. Shirley even used her broach, and that brought her back for a moment, but she knew that she was dying. Senel begged her to stay, told her that he still wanted to propose to her and even implied that he wanted to die with her, but she soon fell limp and cold, and this time, Senel knew that she wouldn’t come back.

Two weeks later, Senel was still obviously grieving for Stella’s death. Shirley had been returned, although she immediately went with Maurits and the other Ferines people to settle some political matters between everyone. And Shirley wanted to work hard to be a good Merines for them, for Stella’s last words to her echoed in her head: “You have the power to make people happy”. Since then, neither Senel nor Shirley made the effort to contact each other, both of them feeling too awkward and depressed to do so despite the fact that that was when they needed each other the most.

After getting a stern talking to by Will and Fenimore, Senel decided to go see her. This ended badly though, for that night, Shirley tried to confess her love for Senel, but he denied her before she could even get the words out, telling her that his heart was still with Stella. The two avoided each other once again, and the next day, Shirley went with the rest of the Ferines to attempt to Rite of Ascension once more while Senel and the group went with Walter to check on a rumor that remnants of Vaclav’s soldiers were hanging around there. They found records in there that detailed Ferines being captured and used as test subjects for an artificial Merines, and that Stella was one of them. Of course, Senel raged. They found another book of records too, one that showed people involved with capturing the Merines, but Senel took that book away. He knew that his name was in there, and in fear of being cast out, he didn’t want anyone to see it.

It turns out that it was a trap so that the group could be away while Shirley became the Merines. By the time they arrived, it was too late; Shirley had turned Merines thanks to several things happening at once and was completely against all Orerines, even going so far as to attack Senel. She also took away the blessings of Nerifes from the Orerines, meaning that she took away their power to use Eres, and she was about to kill them when a snowstorm blew them away from the altar and placed them safely on the ground.

After that phenomenon, the lighthouse in the most Northern part of Werites Beacon opened, and the whole group felt compelled to go there. So they did! Turns out it was an elevator, and it brought them down below the Legacy to another land altogether. This would later be dubbed the Quiet Lands since it had no music or anything.

The Quiet Nerifes, the other half of Nerifes, resided there, and it was showing the Scooby gang the past of their world, why the Ferines hated them, and what they planned to do. After several trials, they learned this: The Ferines came to their world long ago on the very basic shape of the Legacy, but they had war with the Orerines, for they wanted the water for themselves. They lost the war, and so, their only choice was to use the Legacy, which they called the Kingdom of Terises, and sail out to sea. From there, the Legacy created several different lands. But then the Merines at the time gathered up her power and used a weapon called the Wings of Light to create the cataclysm – she sunk half of the world’s land into the sea. She had been meaning to sink the whole land, but her power wasn’t strong enough. And so, the Ferines waited for a new Merines…

Well, they couldn’t let the cataclysm happen again. So, the Quiet Nerifes would grant them super powered eres as long as they deserved it. Everyone got it… except for Senel. No one understood why this was. Once they returned, they left him on his own to contemplate things, but then Chloe came along. He told her that he believed the reason why Quiet Nerifes wouldn’t grant him the power was because he hated being an eren. It never let him become close to anyone in his past, it recruited him into the army, and thus it was ultimately him that led the army back to the Ferines village. And so, with his line of thinking, it was his fault Stella and Shirley were like this. And he was using his feelings for Stella to not confront Shirley over how he felt towards her, that he trusted her. Chloe bitchslapped him a couple of times and told him he was being stupid, and then Senel somehow got it and told Stella that he was going to save Shirley.

So the group went off again! They took a tram of sorts to go to Mirage Palace, which was where Shirley was, and they went through the confusing maze and soon reached the Wings of Light, where Shirley was still powering the weapon up. The Orerines told the Ferines there that they knew the story and explained it, but the Ferines told them they were wrong. Melfes was their world, and the Orerines were the ones who came from space and started creating lands, disrupting the Ferines lifestyle. The news sent the group reeling in shock, but Senel managed to get up and grab onto Shirley, telling her he trusted her.

…Now, that little thing probably shouldn’t have brought her back, but it did. Anyway, with Shirley no longer a danger, everything seemed safe, but then Maurits took Nerifes’ power and transformed into the embodiment of Nerifes’ rage. Thus, they fought the final boss of the main quest! And they won! And everyone was happy! And Maurits survived somehow. Oh and Senel fell into the sea for some reason. But he didn’t fight at all, which made me believe that after he fell, he just… gave up. He didn’t see a reason to go on. Stella’s death weighed on him too much, Shirley was safe, they won, and everything was peaceful again. He said he was fine, but he really wasn’t. However, Shirley dived into the sea and grabbed him, which somehow counted as a Rite of Feriyen since the sea lit up.

“Look, Senel! Nerifes is blessing us! 8D”

“…D|”

And now everyone except Senel was happy!

Two months later, Shirley joined the Scooby gang and bad things started happening again. A dark mist was causing monsters to become twice their strength and make the game twice as hard. This starts the character quests, and they don’t impact Senel so much since he’s already developed enough and they don’t revolve around him.

At the end of it all, he’s developed a sort of familial relation to the entire group, even though Grune had to leave at the end. See, the cause being the dark mist was a being called Schwartz, who was the god of nothingness. It was revealed that Grune is the opposite of her, and her true self awakened after that revelation. They defeated Schwartz, but one can’t live without the other, and so Grune disappeared.

But yes. His bonds with the group are great and that about wraps up Senel’s history.
Personality:

Now for the personality. If one could describe Senny’s personality in an emoticon, it’d be :|. Senel is straightforward, he isn’t very emotional unless something hits him hard and he’s honestly deadpan about some things. Despite him coming from the end of the game, he can still be pretty reckless and rush into things no matter the danger, especially if it concerns those he cares about. Like I said, he’s straightforward, so he likes to get to the point of things. He may even do something without saying a word, or say a harsh word or two, making the other person think he’s rude.

Senel’s personality is a lot deeper than just a stubborn guy, though. It’s not easy for him to trust people. Although he’s postgame and therefore he’s made friends and has loosened up, there’s no way that the impact of his past experiences will ever leave him. The first eight years of his life was spent having to fend for himself, four years of being in an army where conditions can’t be good, two years of peace, and then three years of running away and protecting one person from everyone… Even if he has friends, it still must be very hard for him to open up and trust people.

Speaking of protecting, that’s one of the things he does best and probably overdoes it. If he finds someone important in his life – a lover, a family member or friends, he’s going to latch on to them and never let go. The dedication he showed towards rescuing Shirley and freeing her from her Merines role shows that, and also the fact that even after three years of never seeing her, he was still deeply in love with Stella. With that, he’ll go to great lengths, even if it means his or someone else’s death, to protect them, whether if it means a fight or figuring out the meaning of life or finding a cure for cancer. In a way, he’s sort of codependent on the people he loves.

Senel may keep a lot of his emotions in check, but when something hits him where it hurts? It hits him very hard, and he blows up. Some things can set him off on a screaming rage, enough to punch a wall (though there’s only one time where this happened). It is possible to calm him down, but one would have to use harsh words and send him off somewhere to cool himself off.

Since postgame, he’s figured out that doing things as a team is much better than doing it by himself, but there are probably still a lot of instances where he’d rather go it alone than with a group. He’s simply more comfortable that way. Despite this, he craves being around someone or other people, as long as he has an attachment to them.

Let’s see… a lot of things annoy the living hell out of him. A perky person, things not going his way, slowness… Really, he’s an impatient guy. He’d rather run in and get something done rather than wait around for a plan no matter how good it might be. If something is in his way, whether it be a person or a thing, he won’t be happy about it. He’s capable of getting along with most everyone, considering his group has a whole variety of personalities, but he’ll still be bothered if they don’t move things along.

Also, sometimes, sometimes, he doesn’t want to do things if he’s not going to get something out of it. It’s easy to make him do it, but he won’t want to. Despite that though, he does care about others, especially by the end of the game. He’s concerned about the people of the city he lives in, just… in a very :| way.

Another quirk of his is his sleeping habits. Senel is a deep, terrible sleeper. If anyone sleeps in the same bed as him, I would feel pity for them. Every night with him is like an adventure. He talks in his sleep, flops around a lot, and best of all, he sleepwalks. He can walk a great distance in his sleep and usually ends up in the weirdest places, like on top of an anchor decoration in his room or up in a tree. Talk to him in his sleep and it’ll somehow get through to his dreams. It’s easy to mess with him like this.

Senny may not have known how to cook at the beginning of the game, but by the end, he excels at it. It’s not exactly said, but even in Radiant Mythology, it says that he’s a good baker. Yes, baker. He’s mostly skilled with cooking bread products, since it seems the Legacy only gets shipments of wheat. He’s probably not good at all with anything else.

In short, Senel is mostly an impatient guy who takes most things with a straight face and is very overprotective of those he cares for.

Item Lost: Memories of his time in the Ferines Village. He has no important item to lose, and his two years there had by far the biggest impact on him.
